The Site of the Battles and Death of Lithuanian Partisans (Barčiūnų Village)

On September 15, 1950, a battle took place at the former Asadauskai homestead, set up as a hideout-bunker, between the forces of the MGB Veisiejai division and the partisans of the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion. The commander of the Third Squad of the Mindaugas constituency, Juozas Vailionis-Bedalis, born in Paliūnai village, was killed in the fighting. Also killed were Antanas Majauskas-Pabėgėlis, the commander of the Third Squad of the A. Juozapavičius constituency from Paserninkai village, partisan Vytautas Kalvinskas-Pavasaris, and Vladas Misiūnas-Bijūnas. All these freedom fighters are commemorated in the history of the Dzūkija partisans.
