On September 8, 2012, following a concert by the world-renowned opera soloist Violeta Urmanavičiūtė-Urmana in her hometown, a commemorative bench named "The Nightingale Bench" was unveiled. This monument, created by sculptor Kęstutis Lanauskas, symbolizes special respect and admiration for the opera diva.
Violeta Urmanavičiūtė-Urmana, born in 1961, began her musical journey in Marijampolė, where she attended the then 2nd Secondary School (now Marijampolė R. Stankevičius Basic School). She continued her studies at the Vilnius Conservatory under Professor Vladas Mikštaitis
and later pursued further education at the Munich University of Music and the Munich State Opera.
Since 1993, V. Urmanavičiūtė-Urmana has built her career as an opera soloist in Germany, Switzerland, and France, winning international competitions and debuting at the Bayreuth Festival. She has performed in the world's most renowned theaters in New York, Milan, and Munich, under the baton of the most prestigious conductors. The soloist has been honored with the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize and awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Marijampolė.
