Marijampolė, now known as a vibrant and dynamic city, owes its beginnings to an extraordinary woman—Countess Pranciška Butlerienė. As an influential and strong personality, the Countess invited the first Marian monk, built a church and a Marian monastery, and founded Marijampolė. In the historic old town area, where you can still find the Countess's cats playing with water in the courtyard, the city’s past and its founder’s legacy can be felt.
