Prienai's Freedom Square has a long and rich history, though the exact date of its formation is unknown. The first mention of the square dates back to 1580, when Prienai was granted market privileges. By 1677, there were 123 plots around the square. By the end of the 18th century, the square's center featured a building known as the "trading rows." The square became the center of city life, hosting markets, fairs, and other events.
In 1937, Freedom Square was officially named for the first time with its current name. After World War II, it was transformed into a landscaped square and renamed Victory Square. The square took its present form after renovations in 2002 and 2018, which included new paving stones, planting new trees, and installing a modern fountain. Today, Freedom Square is an important community space in Prienai, hosting city events and celebrations.
