Greimų Bridge in Prienai connects the Dzūkija and Suvalkija parts of the city, separated by the Nemunas River. A boundary marker stands near the bridge, reminding of this symbolic divide. The bridge, located on Vytauto Street, is 227 meters long and 11 meters wide.
The first wooden bridge was built in 1914 by the Russian army, but in 1915, they blew it up while retreating from the Germans. Later, in 1924, the rebuilt bridge was damaged by ice, and in March 1937, it was again destroyed by ice floes. Construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge began according to the design of engineer Pranas Markūnas, completed in 1938, and opened the following day. Unfortunately, in June 1941, as the Soviet army was retreating, they blew up the bridge. In 1947, the bridge was rebuilt, and in 2010, it was named Greimų Bridge.
Greimų Bridge has become a symbol of Prienai, embodying the city's strength and resilience despite challenges.
