This is one of the oldest wooden churches in the country. It stands on the highest hill in the town of Lioliai.
The new wooden church was built in 1768. In 1851, the church was renovated, and a tower was added. In 1857, a wooden bell tower, reminiscent of the defensive towers of Lithuanian castles, was built in the churchyard.
The church is distinguished by its exceptional Baroque architecture and ornate interior, which is rich with authentic monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries. The most valuable feature inside the church is the main altar, created in the late 18th century. The altar is adorned with pairs of sculptures from the late 18th century: at the bottom are St. Casimir and St. Stanislaus, above them are the early Christian martyrs St. Stephen and St. Lawrence, and in the upper tier are sculptures of St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddeus, to whom the church is dedicated.
