In Preila, near the sea by the central lifeguard station, stands a stone monument depicting oars, dedicated to the traveler Gintaras Paulionis. An intense storm and raging waves in the Baltic Sea prevented the tireless traveler from successfully completing his meaningful, patriotic journey that brought fame to the name of Lithuania.
G. Paulionis, in a rowboat he crafted himself and named after the Danish traveler Alfred Jensen, rowed to Copenhagen and, upon his return, perished in the surf near the shores of Preila.
The monument was erected in 1996 and was created by Julius Narušis.
