The Šilinė Botanical Reserve is located near the Panemunių Regional Park Directorate and is often simply known as the Šilinė Forest. It offers beautiful nature and tranquility for those who enjoy walking. The Šilinė Oak Grove is a unique natural monument that recalls the times of pagan beliefs and oak worship. People have long recognized the longevity and power of the oak tree. Lithuanians believed that the god Perkūnas lived in the oak. Oaks under which ancestors gathered to seek health, believing in the healing power of these trees, were especially revered. It was thought that young people who died or were killed transformed into trees. The oak is the national tree of Lithuania. Oak leaf wreaths are used to honor laureates, sports champions, celebrants, name day honorees, and the most distinguished guests.
