Eketė Hillfort, strategically located on the right bank of the Eketė stream in the Klaipėda district, marks one of the most important historical sites in the region, near the confluence of the Danė and Akmena rivers. Surrounded by a contemporary pond, the hillfort is accessible from the Klaipėda–Palanga highway and features an impressive irregular square-shaped area with a semicircular rampart on the northern side. First mentioned in documents from 1253 as a Curonian settlement, the hillfort reflects centuries of habitation and craftsmanship from the beginning of the first millennium until the mid-13th century.
