Located in the heart of Pärnu, the Memorial to the Endla Society marks the site where Estonia’s Declaration of Independence was read aloud for the first time in 1918. The Endla Society, one of the country’s oldest cultural organizations, built a modern Art Nouveau theatre between 1908 and 1911, which became a symbol of national freedom. Although the building no longer exists, the monument created by sculptor Mati Karmin in 1989 serves as a reminder of this place’s significance for those interested in Estonian history and exploring Pärnu’s cultural landmarks.
