The St. John Nepomuk Monument in Molėtai is connected to the events of the 1863 uprising. It is said that St. John Nepomuk saved the insurgents who were retreating through Molėtai towards Kaunas and stayed overnight by the Siesartis River. The first monument to the savior was carved from wood in 1925, but in 1951, it was demolished and thrown into the Pravalo Lake. The current monument, restored in 1991, was created by sculptor V. Jurevičius. This monument symbolizes not only the history of the uprising but also St. John Nepomuk's protection and the lasting memory of the struggle for Lithuania's freedom.
