Markučiai belonged to the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in the 16th century. Jogaila granted part of the land to St. Martin’s Church priest, and later, Grand Duke Alexander Jagiellon gifted it to his wife, Elena of Moscow, who built a summer residence. After her death, the estate passed to the Kiszka family. Ona Radvilaitė-Kiškienė built a palace, later explored by A. H. Kirkor and E. Tyszkiewicz. The Chodkiewicz family later owned the estate.
In the 19th century, Alexander Chodkiewicz sold it to J. Eismant, who later transferred it to Dr. Ignas Godlevskis.
In 1867, engineer A. Melnikov bought Markučiai, built a manor in 1868, and in 1875 gifted it to his daughter Varvara, wife of Grigory Pushkin, son of poet Alexander Pushkin. They settled there in 1899, developing agriculture and leisure businesses. Varvara preserved the poet’s relics and left the manor to the state as a museum. In 1940, the estate was nationalized.
