In Darbėnai, at the intersection of Kretinga and Rožių streets, stands an impressive neo-Gothic chapel made of red bricks, constructed in 1910. This architectural and artistic monument has been listed in the Register of Cultural Values of Lithuania since 1993. The attic with a concrete cross above the front gable accentuates the elegance of this sacred structure.
Inside the chapel is a polychrome wooden sculpture of the Crucified Christ carved by a local folk master, along with two smaller figures of saints. The construction of this chapel was undertaken by Magdalena Vitkauskienė, the mother of Ona Vitkauskytė, an educator and the owner of one of the first bookstores in Kaunas. The chapel is considered a typical example of sacred architecture in the Samogitian region, reflecting the cultural and religious traditions of the area.
