Memorials Honoring Partisans at Darbėnai Cemetery

At Darbėnai Cemetery (Palangos St. 8A), memorials honor the reburied remains of unknown partisans from the Žemaičiai Region’s Kardo Unit and partisan Vladas Galdikas (1922–1948). The reburials took place in 1993 and 1999 when the remains were relocated from the yard of Darbėnai Hospital (formerly the NKVD subdivision) and Linkiai Forest.
In 1992, a wooden memorial was erected, initiated by artist Rita Gorodeckienė. In 2012, an additional stone monument was installed by Vladas Galdikas’s relatives. These memorials symbolize respect for the partisans' fight for Lithuania's freedom and their ultimate sacrifice.
