The Kretinga region is rich in Žemaitian wooden architectural gems, and among them stands the wooden chapel in the old Darbėnai cemetery. This small architectural masterpiece stands out for its beauty and history. The chapel, which is 9 meters tall, was built in the early 20th century by carpenter Juozas Bendikas and the local parishioners. The building is adorned with an ancient shingle roof, decorative wooden panels, and a small bell tower.
Inside, visitors are greeted by an ornate choir balcony, a wooden altar, and legends about the organ that once stood here. The chapel can be visited on special occasions, such as during All Souls' Day, when locals gather to pray for the deceased.
