Portals are unique technological art sculptures that link public spaces across four cities globally. These Portals not only impress with their technology but also foster human connection by enabling live video streams between Vilnius, Lublin, Dublin, and New York. In Vilnius, the Portal is located near the railway station; in Lublin, it is in the centrally located Lithuanian Square; in Dublin, it stands near "The Spire"; and in New York, it is next to the historic Flatiron Building in Manhattan. The sculptures in Vilnius and Lublin are made from monolithic concrete, each weighing 11 tons, while the Dublin and New York Portals are modular, constructed from stainless steel and tempered glass, with a lighter weight of 3.2 tons. Each sculpture
integrates LED screens, cameras, and specialized software. The project’s creator and main financier is artist Benediktas Gylys. The first Portals were funded through his personal resources and support from the Vilnius City Municipality. The Dublin and New York installations were supported by local organizations, including the Simons Foundation and Flatiron NoMad Partnership in New York, and the Dublin City Council. Born in Lithuania, this network of sculptures is stepping onto the international stage. The Portals not only connect different countries but also symbolize the unity of cities and people. Currently, live video streams from the four cities rotate every 3.5 minutes, with plans to expand the network further in the future.
