In the village of Mikoliškiai, in the Kretinga district, stands the cozy and unique St. Joseph's Church, resembling a fairytale. This small prayer house, built from round logs and adorned with traditional ornaments, captivates with its authenticity and warmth. This architectural masterpiece was established in 1911, thanks to Mikoliškiai landowner and military engineer Lucijonas Bronišas. The general himself designed the church, arranged the permits, and financed the purchase of logs and construction materials along with his wife.
The local community played a significant role in the church's construction — farmers from surrounding villages contributed by paying for the labor of the builders. Built in just one year, the church became not only a sacred place but also a symbol of community unity. Today, St. Joseph's Church is a beautiful example of how tradition and history harmonize with the tranquility of nature.
