The Kačaičiai Hillfort, also known as Pilale, is situated at the confluence of the Kartenalė and Small Kartenalė (Braukliškis) rivers. Part of the eastern platform of the hillfort has slid into the Kartenalė stream, but erosion control work carried out between 1993 and 1997 preserved this valuable site. Today, the platform is overgrown, and the slopes are covered with a mixed forest, which gives the area a natural and tranquil atmosphere.
Archaeological research reveals that the hillfort was most likely used for defense purposes – the cultural layer is not very dense, and few artifacts have been found. This hillfort dates back to the 1st millennium, specifically the 13th century. South of the hillfort, in an area of about 0.2 hectares, remains of an ancient settlement have been discovered, indicating the historical significance of this location.
