The Kalno Grikštų hillfort with a foregate is located on the right bank of the Kartenalė River, in the elevated area, and dates back to the 1st millennium, used until the beginning of the 2nd millennium. The wooden castle that once stood here protected the western borders of the lands of the Curonian tribe, Cekliai. However, in the second half of the 13th century, the hillfort was abandoned when these lands were conquered by the Livonian Order.
Today, the hillfort is overgrown with forest, and its defensive ditches and ramparts are eroded and flattened. In 1941, a Red Army post was established on the western slope of the hillfort, and a pit was dug in the foregate area for another military installation. The site retains significant historical value, inviting visitors to learn about Curonian culture and military fortifications.
