The pride of the town of Kartena is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located in the Minija River valley, radiating exceptional beauty. The current wooden church, built in 1874, replaced three previous churches, the last of which was destroyed by fire. The surroundings are adorned with pseudo-Gothic gates and 14 stone chapels.
Inside, visitors can admire three ornate altars, a unique 17th-century metal cross-reliquary, baroque-classical style organs – some of the oldest in the Kretinga district – and a beautifully crafted pulpit. This church not only inspires tranquility but also enriches the cultural experience of every visitor.
