A memorial chapel stands in the Kartenos Cemetery, located at Kretingos St. 32, dedicated to commemorating the victims of Bolshevism from 1946–1953. This significant monument was built in 1990 based on a design by architect Petras Lukauskas.
The chapel holds the remains of partisans, liaisons, and supporters of the Žemaičiai District's Kardo Unit Kartenos (Bugantas) Company who perished between 1948–1951. Their remains were relocated from the courtyard of the former NKVD–MVD–MGB Kartenos District subdivision. This memorial serves not only as a reminder of a painful past but also as a place to honor the memory of Lithuania's freedom fighters.
