On August 15-16, 1941, in the Velniaduobė forest near Bajorai village, Rokiškis rural subdistrict, 3,207 residents from Rokiškis, Kamajai, Skapiškis, Suvainiškis, and Svėdasai, predominantly Jews, were murdered. The executioners were accommodated in the manor houses, from where they started herding people in groups of 100 from the ghetto the next morning. Victims were forced to strip off their upper garments and walk towards the execution site. The killings were carried out by German soldiers and Lithuanian collaborators. This site has become a mass burial memorial for the victims of genocide, bearing witness to the tragic history of the Holocaust and inviting visitors to remember the innocent victims.
