On March 20, 2022, a chapel pole was unveiled in Veisiejai in memory of Marija Bižytė. This monument, created by Artūras Zienka and Ramūnas Šuminskas, was blessed to honor Marija's heroic deed. Marija Bižytė was born in 1935 in the village of Radvilonys, Veisiejai district, where she began her independent life working in a tea house and a construction organization.
In 1959, in the town of Rudny, Kazakhstan, she saved two young girls by pushing them out from under a truck, sacrificing her own life in the process. Marija is regarded as a hero in Kazakhstan, where a street is named after her, and a monument has been erected in her honor. In Veisiejai, the chapel pole dedicated to her memory stands on a street also named after her.
