The Šliktinė sacrificial site is a unique cultural monument near Skuodas district, located between the Derkintis reservoir and Mikitai mound. This archaeological site became famous after the discovery of two hoards dating to the 9th–11th centuries, containing more than 300 artifacts. In 1938 and 1971, finds of weapons and jewelry were uncovered in the valley of the village of Šliktinė, associated with traditional water sacrifices. Museums preserve these archaeological finds, including spearheads, axes, brooches, knives, and other ancient relics. Some artifacts from the Šliktinė hoard are kept in the Šiauliai "Aušra," Skuodas, and Kaunas museums, while others have mysteriously disappeared. The Šliktinė site and its ancient treasures are valuable memories of the past, reminding us of ancient rituals.

The Šliktinė sacrificial site is a unique archaeological heritage in the Skuodas district, protected as a cultural asset (unique code - 30303). Located in the scenic valley of the Šata stream, the site is renowned for ancient treasures found near the Mikitai mound, also known as the Castle. In 1938 and 1971, two large hoards dating to the 9th–11th centuries were accidentally discovered here, containing over 300 unique artifacts. Archaeologists believe that these finds could have been offerings to the gods, made according to the tradition of water sacrifices. The first find was discovered in 1938 when Adomas Jucius was digging a trench in the wet valley of the Šata stream. Around 50–70 iron

and bronze artifacts were found, including spearheads, axes, brooches, and knives. In 1971, during land reclamation work, excavator operator Pranas Venckus found a second hoard nearby—about 5 kg of bronze "chains," knives, spearheads, and even a single-edged sword. These finds are partly preserved in the Šiauliai "Aušra," Skuodas, and Kaunas museums, although some items were lost or have disappeared. The Šliktinė sacrificial site is an important part of Lithuania's cultural and historical heritage, symbolizing the religious customs of ancient people. This archaeological site not only attracts visitors but also reveals fascinating facts about the worldview and rituals of ancient Lithuanians.
