The soldiers Pranas Mickevičius and Stasys Povilauskas from the 8th Company of the VI Infantry Regiment of Duke Margis rest in the cemetery of Smalėnai village, located near the city of Sejny. They were killed in battle against the Polish army on September 22, 1920. Their burial sites are known, and the soldiers are honored as brave defenders of their homeland.
It is also believed that Povilas Krušniauskas, a private from the Marijampolė Battalion of the VI Infantry Regiment of Duke Margis, rests in this cemetery. He was killed in the same battle on September 22, 1920. Unfortunately, his soldier's cross has not survived, but his memory lives on.
This site serves as an important historical landmark where people can honor and remember the soldiers who fought for Lithuania's freedom.
