Location of the Battles and Death of Lithuanian Partisans (Bilvyčių Village)

On April 19, 1952, intense fighting took place at O. Černelytė's homestead in the Lazdijai district between the MGB forces and partisans from the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion, representing the Mindaugas region. Following the betrayal by the MGB agent known as "Durtuvas," the partisans' headquarters was attacked by a group of chekists led by Šmatavičius, the head of the MGB Lazdijai division, along with other high-ranking officials. During the two-and-a-half-hour battle, several fighters from the 3rd squad were killed, including Kostas Jankauskas (Vikeris), Vytautas Andriuškevičius (Vijoklis), Vincas Dambauskas (Žvejas, Jaunutis), Sigitas Lastauskas (Aušra), and Antanas Šalaševičius (Visvydas). Before the battle began, the MGB offered the partisans a chance to surrender, but they responded in writing: "We will die, but we will not surrender."
