On December 22, 1947, in Vytautiškės village, Krosna parish, Marijampolė district, partisans from the Vytautas battalion, led by Juozas Karašauskas, known as Liepa, were stationed at the homestead of Balys Šetakauskas. On December 23, they were attacked by the Soviet Internal Troops and an operational group from the MGB Marijampolė district. During this confrontation, three partisans lost their lives: squad leader Juozas Navickas, known as Liūtas, from Varnupiai village (Marijampolė district), Oskaras Iling, a war captive from Berlin, and Juozas Svinkūnas, known as Šamas, from Dzingiškiai village. The platoon leader J. Karašauskas-Liepa was captured. The bodies of the fallen partisans were desecrated in Krosna and later buried behind the cemetery in Krosna town. On October 7, 1989, the remains of the partisans were relocated to the Marijampolė (Bliūdžiškiai) cemetery, where the graves of Lithuanian partisans are now located.
