Lake Lūkstas, located in Telšiai District, Samogitia, just 2 km from the town of Varnių, is the second largest lake in Samogitia and a popular tourist destination within the Varniai Regional Park. The lake is famous for its amber finds, attracting many visitors.
The lake's basin was formed by the melting of an ice block, and its shoreline stretches for 20.5 km. The northwestern shore is steep, while the eastern and southern shores are marshy, covered with small forests. Several rivers feed the lake: Sietuva, Gardena, Domantas, and Ungurys, while the lake drains into the Varnelė River, which flows into the Venta River basin. Lūkstas is a flowing lake with an area of 991 hectares.
The longest part of the lake is 6.15 km, the maximum width is 3.45 km, and the deepest point reaches 7 meters, with an average depth of 3.6 meters. Lūkstas is a great place for both relaxation and nature exploration, offering recreational opportunities as well.
