The Vembūtai Hillfort is located 1.8 km west of Lake Lūkstas and 0.6 km northeast of the left bank of the Domantas Stream, northwest of Čerbo Forest. This hillfort features steep slopes, reaching up to 13 meters in some places, and is covered with trees and bushes. The hillfort's beauty is most evident on the western side of the rampart, where you can see an impressive cliff and a stream below.

Vembūtai/Vydmantai Hillfort The Vembūtai Hillfort is located 1.8 km west of Lake Lūkstas and 0.6 km northeast of the left bank of the Domantas Stream, northwest of Čerbo Forest. This hillfort features steep slopes, reaching up to 13 meters in some places, and is covered with trees and bushes. The hillfort's beauty is most evident on the western side of the rampart, where you can see an impressive cliff and a stream below. It is believed that this site might have been the Vykintas Castle mentioned in the Hypatian Codex from the 13th century, alongside the Vykintas Town. Locals refer to the hillfort as Pilies Dauba (Castle Hollow). Although the hillfort is relatively small, the area reveals well-preserved fortifications and remnants of other structures. There are rows of broken

stones marking the locations of former barriers and remains of gates leading to the castle grounds. Near the main castle, there is a manually dug water reservoir. It is thought that the hillfort might have contained graves and possibly an astronomical observation site. The fortification complex is reinforced on all sides by the waters of rivers, lakes, and marshes, making the castle difficult to access. Vembūtai Castle could have been one of the largest defensive structures, housing more troops than the nearby Medvėgalis, Burbiškiai, or Pliny Castle. These castles were connected by roads, with fordways and wooden bridges built in fords and lakes. It is believed that the Battle of Tver, mentioned in historical sources from 1251, could have taken place near Vembūtai Castle.
