Bugailiškiai Hillfort, located on the right bank of the Šernupis River, is a significant archaeological site dating back to the early 1st millennium. In 1999, archaeologist Povilas Tebelškis conducted an investigation over a 60 m² area but did not find any cultural layer. Despite this, the hillfort remains an important historical monument.
Over time, the hillfort has been heavily disturbed by plowing and the construction of potato cellars, and it is now covered with a pine forest. In 1973, Bugailiškiai Hillfort was included in the list of Lithuanian cultural monuments, and later it was also registered as a cultural heritage site.
Visitors to Bugailiškiai Hillfort can not only experience the spirit of the past but also enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding it. This historic site is a valuable destination for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers. Discover Bugailiškiai Hillfort and immerse yourself in Lithuania's past by exploring this cultural heritage site.
