Aukštadvario mound, also known as Pilaitės mound, is situated in the picturesque surroundings of the Verknė River and Pilaitė Lake. The hillfort is a significant historical monument worth visiting. Written sources indicate that after the Teutonic Order burned and destroyed Navinpilis Castle on February 14, 1381, it was mentioned as fully operational and functioning by January 1382. Archaeological excavations conducted between 1957 and 1960 unearthed nearly 1800 artifacts, confirming historical events. The hillfort dates back from the 2nd
century BC to the 17th century AD, with a manor belonging to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania standing on it during the 15th to 17th centuries. In the 16th century, King Sigismund Augustus gifted the estate to Ivan Liacki, a noble who relocated here to escape persecution under Moscow's "oprichnina." To learn more about Aukštadvario piliakalnis, visitors can explore the local archaeological research website or contact regional history researchers. This unique historical site attracts enthusiasts of both culture and history from around the world.
