This site, dedicated to nurturing folk devotion and spirituality, is rich with wooden angel sculptures, elegant forged suns, and life trees adorned with national symbols. The initial idea for the Hill of Angels was conceived by Dominyka Dubauskaitė-Semionovė and Lolita Piličiauskaitė-Navickienė in 2009 to commemorate the millennium of the name of Lithuania and the 600th anniversary of the Trakai Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was planned to place ten angels on the hill, each representing a century. However, the generosity and kindness of those who supported the idea exceeded expectations, and 18 angel sculptures were erected from the start! Now, the Hill of Angels is also known as the Millennium Sign Trail.

Today, more than 40 large and small wooden angels, carved from oak, stand on this 4.3-hectare hill. Each angel on the hill embodies a truth, a fundamental human or Christian value. Angels representing Life, Truth, Peace, Spiritual Peace, Compassion, Sacrifice, Love, Health, Joy, Gratitude, Hope, and more can be found here. There are also angels watching over families, scholars, spiritual peace, and the Baltic Way, among others. Among the wooden sculptures is a life-sized angel symbolizing Kindness, inviting visitors to hug it and draw in this life-enhancing feeling. The hill also features your angel, which you must visit. The oak sculptures by Lithuanian and foreign artists reflect traditional woodcarving and cross-crafting. The hill is beginning to feature angels made from other materials: in 2015, an Angel of Orphan Protection with a granite head was placed here, and in 2017, a metal guardian angel for librarians arrived. The sculptors' works embody the thoughts of the angels' donors and the messages carried by higher forces. This is an ongoing project nurtured by people's spirituality and gratitude, inviting everyone to contribute by expressing their thoughts, prayers, or important moral values. The Hill of Angels is an open, free space accessible at any time. It offers a beautiful view of the vast landscape of forests and waters. From the hill, you can see the Trakai lakes, the majestic castle, the Trakai Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, and other historical, cultural, and natural heritage sites. What makes the Hill of Angels unique is its bird's-eye view over the Galvė Lake area, where you can see an angel with outspread wings: the body and legs formed by Galvė, Totoriškės, and Luka (Bernardinai) lakes, the wings by Skaistis and Akmena lakes, and the head by the Hill of Angels! Legend
of the Hill of Angels Long ago, when God was creating the Trakai region, an angel with a sensitive soul assisted him. After long rains, water filled the various depressions made by God's finger, creating numerous lakes. The angel was so mesmerized by the crystal-clear waters, the abundance of fish, and the variety of birds diving in the waves that he constantly flew over the lakes, chasing dragonflies, and completely forgot his duties. Concerned, the angel's brothers turned to God, seeing that the angel had lost his head over the lakes and forgotten his daily tasks. The Creator calmed them with a wave of his hand, announcing that where three places of worship could be seen, the angel would find his head! The earth trembled, the heavens rumbled, and suddenly a hill appeared. The surrounding lakes joined the hill, becoming the angel's body and wide-spread wings. Centuries later, people climbed the hill from which they could see three temples – a church, a chapel, and an island castle – all dedicated to God. They liked the hill very much and began to place wooden angels there. As soon as the first angels were erected, the angel with a sensitive soul awoke and realized that this was the foretold place where he had lost his head. Gazing at the beauty of the hill, the angel proclaimed, "Angels will multiply on this hill, protecting Trakai and all of Lithuania, and Trakai will become a path for goodness and love to spread!" Vision of the Hill of Angels The Hill of Angels is an expression of civic activism, initially aimed at commemorating the millennium of the first mention of the name of Lithuania and the 600th anniversary of the Trakai Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. With the number of angels on the hill increasing, it is hoped that this place will gather and unite local people, families, and professional or other communities. The hill hosts guardian angels for teachers, elders, soldiers, special investigation service employees, journalists, and members of other communities, as well as angels reminding us of loved ones. The Hill of Angels invites visitors to explore the Arts House, which offers a variety of artistic events. Each visitor will undoubtedly spend a spiritually enriching time, pray, and be in a space that unites integrity and art. Sacred Music Festival "Songs of Angels on the Hill" is a sacred music festival organized by the Hill of Angels community. Each year, the sounds of hymns and songs rise above the impressive landscape of Trakai, calling for sincere prayers and thanks to God for Hope, Harmony, Love, Spiritual Strength, and all other Christian values.
