The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Semeliškės was built in 1895 in response to a request from local residents, as the nearest Orthodox church was in Vievis, 19 versts away from the town. The construction process began in 1893 when the Orthodox Diocese of Vilnius approved the project and budget. The necessary funding for the construction came from both local residents and the state treasury, as well as from the district governor. The church was built as a stone structure, connected to the bell tower, and became the most significant architectural feature of Semeliškės. From 1896 to 1954, it belonged to the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker parish, later becoming part of the Vievis parish. Throughout the 20th century, the church underwent several renovations, and after each renovation, it became the main place of worship for the Orthodox community in the area.
