In the western part of Veliuona, we recommend visiting the impressive brick chapel that recalls the times of the noble Zaleski family.

In 1844, the Zaleski landowners of Veliuona built a burial chapel. This was the most honorable place in the cemetery, where noble and wealthy people were buried. The chapel had an entrance and steps from the Nemunas River side, with a small altar inside.

On All Saints' Day and during All Souls' Day, services were held for the Zaleski family's relatives. During the First World War, a shell pierced the chapel's roof. The crumbling brick burial chapel of the Zaleski family has always been a prominent landmark and symbol of the cemetery. Over the years, it deteriorated further. By 2019, only the walls with pointed door and window openings, characteristic of stylistic architecture, remained. Currently, the chapel, which had been deteriorating for many years, has been restored.
