The church, built in an eclectic style, stands on the right bank of the Nemunas-Dubysa confluence and was completed in 1913. According to the legend about the first church in Seredžius, one spring, a flood of the Nemunas River carried a sacred painting that no one could capture. Believers from all the parishes along the Nemunas River went to greet the painting, hoping to adorn their church with it. The painting floated along the river, eluding capture by anyone. The people of Seredžius went out to meet the painting, singing hymns. As they approached, the painting drifted towards the shore where they stood. At that spot, they built the wooden Seredžius Church.
