The monument is erected at the site where the administrative line with the Polish-occupied Vilnius region once ran. This line was guarded by the Lithuanian border police. Officers here had to perform a difficult and dangerous duty as it was a temporary border between two recently warring states. Lithuania never recognized this line as a state border; it was marked only by simple wooden stakes, which were often relocated by Polish forces, leading to numerous conflicts. Our border guards suffered as a result of these actions.
