Dovilai Hillfort, hidden between the banks of the Minija River and Piliakalnis Forest, is one of those places you find by following carefully placed road signs from the village of Dovilai. Its history, intertwined with locally significant names such as Pilalės Hill, Pelutės Hill, Muškalnis, and around twenty legends, reveals the depth of the hillfort's past. A popular tale about a shepherd boy who discovered a hidden cave in the hill and spent three magical days there, only to emerge as the silent keeper of secrets, underscores the local mystique and historical charm.

This elevated feature is formed by
a long and narrow platform (110×20–25 meters) surrounded by prominent ramparts. The hillfort features 9-meter-high steep slopes, giving it a defensive significance. World War II also left its mark here – in late 1944, the hillfort became part of the Klaipėda defense lines, with concrete machine gun positions and anti-tank ditches, known as Koch's bunkers, strategically carved into the hillfort's platform. Dovilai Hillfort not only captivates with its historical and cultural stories but also becomes a sought-after destination for those who appreciate the beauty of nature and the layers of history.
