Lapai Hillfort, also known as Pilalė, is an impressive natural and historical site located on the right bank of the Žvelsa River. This historic landmark, situated in the village of Lapiai, is about 0.95 km southeast of the Vėžaičiai-Kartena road, offering not only historical value but also recreational enjoyment for visitors. The hillfort stands out with its geographic coordinates and surroundings: situated in the Žvelsa valley, it is a protected immovable cultural heritage site due to its historical and natural significance. With steep slopes about 10 meters high and an oval-shaped platform approximately 70 x 30 meters in size, oriented northeast-southwest, the hillfort is a prime example of how history merges with nature. The environment around the hillfort is maintained

and cared for by local residents who live at its base, in a traditional rural-style homestead. It is believed that the hillfort was used as a strategic hideout from the first millennium until the 13th century.
