In Rumšiškės, between 1851 and 1853, a parish clerks' school operated, where poet Antanas Baranauskas studied. During his time there, he composed his first poems (20 works about the seasons and the flooding of the Nemunas River) and began writing a diary in which he mentioned Rumšiškės parish priest F. Višinskis. The poet wrote about him: "For everything I have learned, I am only grateful to him." In 1853, the school had 28 students from various parts of Lithuania.
In 1938, the Rumšiškės school was named after A. Baranauskas, and today it is known as Antanas Baranauskas Gymnasium. A street in the town is also named in his honor. In 1967, a commemorative stone with A. Baranauskas' bas-relief (sculpted by V. Žuklys) was unveiled near the church.
