Shooting Range Hill is a unique natural and historical site in Dzūkija, Varėna district. It was formed by the bends of the Grūda River, which erode one slope while depositing sediments on the other. The hill became famous in the 20th century, when during the Polish occupation and later under the Germans, a shooting range operated here – hence the name. Locals still recall how children used to collect lead bullets from the slopes of the hill. The site can be reached from the surroundings of Marcinkonys and is visited by hikers and nature lovers. Shooting Range Hill rises about 124 m above sea level, offering an impressive panorama of the Grūda River. It is a great destination for an educational hike, where the beauty of nature meets traces of history.
