One of the first lighthouses on the northeastern Baltic Sea coast, the Klaipėda Lighthouse, was built and lit on September 1, 1796. Only the lighthouses in Danzig and Travemünde were older.

After construction work in 1819, the lighthouse was elevated, and more reflectors were installed, illuminated by 13 oil lamps. At that time, the lighthouse's light could be seen over 30 kilometers at sea.

Only the 4-meter base of this more than 200-year-old lighthouse remains authentic. The lighthouse was completely destroyed during World War II. It was rebuilt in 1945 and reconstructed and improved in 1953.

The lighthouse is now 44 meters high. The distance from the sea is 500 meters, and its signal can be seen 33 kilometers away.

For three centuries, the Klaipėda Lighthouse has faithfully served sailors returning to the port.
