Mūro Strėvininkai Hillfort

Located on the left bank of the Strėva River, this hillfort is a unique archaeological and historical site. Although the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in the 1950s destroyed the southwestern part of the hillfort, the remaining trapezoidal platform provides insight into the former structure of the site. The platform, measuring 23 meters in length and ranging from 8.5 to 20 meters in width, features a notable rampart, while the northwest slope showcases a terrace with slopes reaching a height of 16 meters.

Hillfort, this site is a significant part of local history, dating back to the first millennium. Local legends speak of a place where the dead were cremated and mention two important stones near the cremation site, which were recently pushed into the Bačkonys pond, adding to the mystique of the location. The hillfort is accessible from the Bačkonys-Liutonys road, near the Mūro Strėvininkai dam. The area is overgrown with bushes and trees, and concrete stairs and signposts have been installed to guide visitors through this historic site.
