Pakri Old Lighthouse

The Pakri Old Lighthouse (Est. Pakri vana tuletorn) stands atop the impressive Pakri cliffs near the town of Paldiski, Estonia. It was built in 1724 by order of Tsar Peter I to ensure safe navigation in the Baltic Sea. It was one of the oldest lighthouses on this coast. Initially made of wood, later rebuilt in stone, the lighthouse faced the challenges of erosion and strong Baltic winds, which gradually wore away the coastline. Eventually, the lighthouse stood dangerously close to the edge and was abandoned in the 20th century. Its functions were taken over by the nearby new Pakri Lighthouse (Pakri tuletorn). Today, the old lighthouse remains as a historical monument and a romantic site, reminding visitors of maritime history and the battle with the forces of Baltic nature. It is one of the most fascinating attractions on the Pakri Peninsula, drawing both history and nature lovers.
