White Dune (Balta Kāpa) in Saulkrasti, Latvia, is one of the most beautiful natural sites on the coast, reaching about 18 meters in height and stretching along the Gulf of Riga. Its bright white sand contrasts with the surrounding pine forest, creating stunning panoramic views of the sea and Pabaži beach. A wooden trail leads through the forest toward the shore, passing the Environmental Design Park, where wooden sculptures like Hedgehog Mom Frīda and Bunny Fred encourage visitors to respect nature. The park also features the “Insect Trail,” a listening horn to hear the sound of the sea and wind in the pines, and educational boards about the dune’s formation, local flora, and fauna. Nearby, Empress Catherine II once bathed and planted two linden trees that still grow today. The White Dune is beloved for its sunsets, peaceful landscape, and the chance to connect with the beauty of Baltic nature.
