In 1912, it was decided to place a fountain in the center of Theatre Square, initially planning a triangular park around it, though this idea was later abandoned. The fountain was dedicated to the memory of the Klaipėda-born poet and professor at the University of Königsberg, Simon Dach. It depicts a young barefoot girl holding a flower—a character sung about by the poet. This was the first humanitarian memorial in the region, built from public donations, including contributions from the Lithuanians of Klaipėda region, and is noted for its lyricism, romanticism, and democratic spirit.
Simon Dach's love song "Taravos Anikė" is well-known not only in Germany but also in Switzerland and Austria, making its way into the German folk song repertoire. Even the bells of the Munich town hall play this melody, showcasing the song's popularity and influence.
