High Hill is an impressive 20-meter-high elevation located in the center of Dzērbene, covered with pines, spruces, and hazel trees. It is surrounded on three sides by bodies of water, and at the top there is a 50×50 meter site with ramparts and ditches—an ancient hillfort. A castle once stood here, guarding the area, and the top offers views over the surrounding landscape. In the early 20th century, High Hill again became a local attraction—its flat summit hosted dances and events. From traditional “green feasts” to modern discos, this place remains an important part of cultural life in Dzērbene.
