St. Mary’s Church of Tõstamaa, built between 1763 and 1768, is one of the most prominent architectural landmarks in Tõstamaa. Its tall tower once served as a crucial landmark for fishermen, and inside, visitors can admire beautiful ceilings, a pulpit, and an altar painting. The church stands on sandy soil and is gradually sinking – according to local legend, this is punishment for the village having built a tavern before a church.
