In the urban structure of 18th-century Klaipėda, an impressive square building known as the "Comedy House" initially served a military purpose but later became a cultural hub. The city administration, paying for the use of this state land, became the proprietor of Klaipėda's first theater. Since 1777, this building housed the theater, soon to be joined by actors from Berlin. Although the subsequent history of the "Comedy House" remains unclear, it is known that the site of the Theater Square once featured the marshes of the Danė River.
