On January 10, 2023, a monument dedicated to the Latvian national currency – the lats – was unveiled in Ventspils. Located on the slopes of the Livonian Order Castle, this urban environment installation was created by sculptor Gļebs Panteļejevs and architect Andris Veidemanis. Inspired by the 1992 one-lat coin, the sculpture depicts a salmon, symbolizing Latvia's economic and cultural development. This artwork commemorates the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the lats, reflecting Latvia's history and the transitional period from the lats to the euro.
