Klaipėda Castle is a historic fortress with a history spanning over 700 years. Founded in 1252 at a strategically important location by the Curonian Lagoon, this castle served as a stronghold for the Livonian Order in its battles against the Baltic tribes. For centuries, Klaipėda Castle was continuously attacked and rebuilt, and by the 14th–15th centuries, it had become a powerful defensive structure with four towers, a defensive wall, and bastions. Later, it came under the control of the Duchy of Prussia, and in the 17th century, it was transformed into a Dutch-style fortress. Although the castle was destroyed at the end of the 19th century, fragments of its defensive walls remain on the site. Today, the location of Klaipėda Castle is a historical landmark where events and tours take place, attracting both locals and tourists.

Klaipėda Castle is a historic fortress in Lithuania, with origins dating back to the 13th century. Built in 1252 at the mouth of the Danė River, the castle became an important stronghold for the Livonian Order, intended to control the Baltic coast. The original wooden castle was surrounded by defensive moats and walls, but constant attacks by the Samogitians and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania’s armies led to its reconstruction. By the 14th century, it was transformed into a stone fortress with four towers and strong embankments. After the 1422 Peace of Melno, Klaipėda Castle was significantly strengthened to accommodate artillery defense. In the 16th–17th centuries, the castle came under the control of the Duchy of Prussia and
was adapted to the Dutch-style defense system with bastions, named after Prussian rulers, such as Prince Karl and Prince Friedrich. However, by the late 18th century, the castle’s significance diminished, and by the mid-19th century, it began to decay. In the 20th century, a ship repair company operated here, and today the castle grounds are an important cultural heritage site, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts. Visitors can now see the remnants of the castle's defensive walls, participate in educational tours, and attend various events held in the historic castle area. Klaipėda Castle is an excellent place for those wishing to explore Lithuanian history and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the medieval period.
